Hi! I currently do not work in the lab, I mostly use my computer.
In the past I mainly looked at soils, I sampled them in the fields and looked at Carbon content, sand and clay, or sometimes microorganisms, and tested soils to see how much water they could hold. After testing the soils for their characteristics I would use the info for modelling things on my computer, mainly revolving around the water cycle.
Hi, I also primarily don’t work in labs. My job relates to the funding of research and assessing the proposals for money we receive. We sometimes have meetings held at lab sites which include tours of facilities but that’s about it!
I am trying to understand how a group of proteins shape the DNA inside the cells and how this group controls the development of a embryo and why sometimes these proteins do not do their job properly, which causes some illnesses. I am trying to get the structure of all these proteins together. In doing so we can understand how they function when attached to the DNA.
My lab is my computer, and any computer around the world that I connect to. Most of what I do is communicate with other scientists and programmers. This used to be in person, but now is mostly using zoom or team. I spend a lot of time programming, writing documentation, writing or reviewing grants or papers, managing my team etc. My favourite time is when I can sit back, turn the music up loud, and think about a problem, convert it into code, and then watch it being solved in front of me on the screen 🙂
My lab is slightly different to the sort of lab you might think of. My lab is filled with computers, servers, cameras, touch screen displays, giant monitors, tiny computers, sensors, an aread to build computers, places to solder, testing equipment…..lots of very cool technology really!. My lab is an area that we can use to test new concepts and can be used as an innovation zone amongst other things!
Hey! Im a microbiologist so i do loads of cool experiments in the lab relating to bacteria and DNA. I extract DNA and can test if bacteria are resistant to different antibiotics (drugs) it’s super fun!
